WELCOME TO SALSA CONNECTION! WE ARE HAPPY YOU FOUND US!
We offer 4-week Level 1 beginner sessions in Salsa On1 and Bachata monthly. We offer beginner Introduction to Salsa On2 as a 3-hour intensive on scheduled Saturdays. Specific start dates for each session can be found below.
PLEASE NOTE: Memberships are for our drop-in classes only and do not apply to our Level 1 sessions or bootcamps.
What to Expect
Salsa On1 Level 1 and Bachata Level 1 are taught in 4-week sessions that start the beginning of each month. Students do not need a partner to sign up because we rotate partners during class. Each class is structured so that the material builds on what the student learned the previous week. At the end of the 4- week session, many students decide to retake Level 1 until they feel comfortable with the fundamentals before testing out to move into Level 2. Because we believe strongly in a solid foundation, we offer retakes of Level 1 at a 50% discount. Please email us at [email protected] to request to retake the class and we will invoice you with the discount.
Introduction to Salsa On2 is taught on Saturdays throughout the year (schedule below). This 3-hour intensive covers the fundamentals of dancing Salsa On2. This is a great option for students who have difficulty attending a 4-week consecutive session. Students do not need a partner to sign up because we rotate partners during class. After learning the fundamentals, students can continue learning in our Salsa On2 Level 2 class (drop-in) offered every Monday at 6:30 pm.
FAQs
WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND ALL 4 CLASSES IN THE 4-WEEK SESSION?
If you are unable to attend all 4 weeks, there are no "make up" classes as a new session begins after the previous one ends. If you have to miss one class out of the four class session we can get you caught up. If you are not able to commit to a 4-week class, or if the days we teach beginner classes do not work for you, please contact us for private lesson options as an alternative to learn the Level 1 material.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SALSA ON1 and SALSA ON2
The two most common Salsa timings for social dancing are On1 and On2. The difference is the timing related to when you step your forward break or back break. We offer 4-week beginner class sessions in both Salsa On1 and Salsa On2 that start at the beginning of each month.
WHAT happens after completing level 1?
Many students retake Level 1. Because we strongly believe a solid foundation is important, we offer retakes at a 50% discount. If you plan to retake Level 1, please email us at [email protected] to sign up and receive the discount. When a student feels ready to move up to Level 2, an instructor will "test out" the student to assess if he/she is ready to move up to Level 2.

Practice Socials
Practice Socials are designed to provide dancers with an opportunity to practice what they have learned in a supportive environment that is similar to a dance social but like a class in that it also provides dancers the opportunity to ask questions. Practice Socials are also a great opportunity for beginner level students to receive one-on-one help. A mix of Salsa and Bachata music will play continuously for the two hours. SCDC's instructors will be available during this block of time to social dance, answer questions, help students with specific techniques, etc. Practice socials are free and open to everyone in the Richmond dance community.
